Lucas Soi, Canada
Born in 1979, Soi is a Canadian artist living and working in Vancouver, B.C.  He specializes in pen and ink drawing with a monochrome palette.  As a self-taught artist with no formal training, Soi works in the tradition of 1970s American underground comix and 19th century French Romanticism.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am interested in current events and popular culture and how they affect our material reality.  Content is explored using allegory, narrative and memory.  Since colour appeals to the viewer's emotions my work is executed in black and white to more directly advance an intellectual proposition.  My style is spontaneous and incorporates all technical mistakes; I do not work in pencil beforehand or plan out my compositions.  They are all done freehand.
