Carolyn Mason and Susannah Slocum

Description: For the past year we have been sitting for portraits at the Kmart and Sears studios with a variety of men and children – all recruited on craigslist and paid to portray intimate relationships with us. In the project, Slocum appears as a mother and Mason appears as a spouse. During the making of the portraits, the photographers inserted us into the studio’s template poses illustrating motherly affection or romantic love. The photographs document an ongoing performance which, to date, is comprised of 20
images.
