Category and Expertise: Performance, Professional
Ballast is a circus performance that aims to illustrate how costume and body can merge to symbolise mind pains, which are externalised through physical lesions, allowing alternating sensations of heaviness and its opposite, weightlessness. The performance consist in the losing of loads: a pain-free body, like a hot air balloon, which gains height when the ballast is thrown. The muscles and its lesions are abstractly embodied through stitches and hidden metal objects in the costume. This being a dynamic interactive element in the scenography, enriching the performers communicative capacity. The metal pieces of ballast are located inside the costume and the performer removes them during his escape from emotional troubles.
